Fluid, bulging, translucent, sharp-edged, undulating, and electric, Kazakh artist Aigana Gali’s latest body of luminous paintings appear at once precise and other-worldly, mystical and technological. Like a star or distant planet, each composition contains and transmits its own captivating and mysterious energy, they are, Gali explains, ‘the things that that happen when I tune into the light; alive to the very specific, vibrational tone of that day, what emerges are forms that express its character.’
Rendering biomorphic shapes and symbols with a luminous application of colour, Aigana Gali (b. 1980, Kazakhstan) fluidly reconciles the opposing properties of light and shadow on her celestial canvases. Her work embodies the mythical quality of light found in nature and the cosmos. Garrard’s and Gali’s harmonious paintings encapsulate the feeling of lightness of being, and can be seen as portals to a higher state of awareness.
“The meaning of life for followers of the Tengri is to be at one with nature, and in this we are sustained by both the spirits of heaven and earth: the eternal blue sky and the warm yellow mother beneath our feet.” Aigana Gali
